Perry's initial attempts at becoming a star in the mainstream were unsuccessful. She has been signed by 2 record labels, but she resigned before she released any material. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, and received modest interest for its cheerfully flippant track. I kissed a Girl - an ode to sexual curiosity released several months after. It featured a hard electro-pop sound, and had a strong attitude. I Kissed a Girls was immediately a hit but it quickly sparked controversies. Critics argued that it was a promotion of sexual relations between men and women, however others believed that the scene the song depicted appealed more to male fantasies. I Kissed A Girl's mix of titillation, polished melody and an enthralling chorus made to make it a top ten song in a variety of countries. It led to The album, of the same name of the Boys (2007) selling well. Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy second single Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album the songs Perry wrote herself eventually registered greater than three million copies in the United States.
